Blind peoples' use of brain area?

Okay, so I think that there is a part in the human brain that processes everything that a person sees and retains that information to go through later and use. But blind people don't use that part of their brain in the same way I do, so what happens to that part of their brain? Is it used to heighten other senses such as hearing?
